What we do:

Operational Centres

RAV maintains 5 Operational Centres throughout rural Victoria. These are located in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Morwell and Wangaratta and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The OpCens are responsible for resource deployment and communications functions.

When a member of the public rings 000 and requests ambulance assistance the call is directed through to the most appropriate RAV OpCen.

The call is answered by a trained RAV Call Taker to ascertain the nature of the emergency.

A Dispatcher determines and allocates the best resource.

As some ambulance resources are distributed over significant geographical areas, the OpCen will regularly move ambulance resources around the State to maximise operational coverage.

As the incident progresses the OpCen keeps track of the case through its communications network and provides an interface to specialist resources such as medical consultation with a hospital, other emergency service organisations (ie Police, Fire and the SES) until the incident has concluded.
