Ambulance Paramedics are an integral part of a patient care team responsible for:
- Providing pre-hospital health care and transport for sick and injured people;
- Attempting to stabilise and/or improve the patient condition in preparation for transportation to hospital; and
- Maintaining care during such transportation.
An Ambulance Paramedic must be able to think clearly, possess a calm manner and have the ability to reassure patients and handle stressful situations. Ambulance Paramedics must be able to accept responsibility, possess personal integrity, have a desire to be involved in community services and be able to work with, and be tolerant of, people from many different backgrounds.
