Community First Responder volunteers form part of the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) strategically located throughout rural Victoria. When 000 is called for an ambulance the Operations Centres simultaneously dispatches a CERT along with a paramedic crew to emergencies to provide a more efficient and effective response to remote communities prior to the arrival of an ambulance.
The CERT does not transport patients, but provides 'first responder' first aid and comfort to the sick and injured.
Community First Responders perform an extraordinary job by providing basic emergency pre-hospital care where they are located in rural and remote communties before an ambulance arrives.
