Ambulance Community Officers

An Ambulance Community Officer (ACO) plays an important role in supporting Rural Ambulance Victoria service delivery in rural areas. An ACO gives a commitment to RAV that they will respond to emergency situations as required. As a member of their local community they are able to be actively involved in promoting ambulance services within their township.

RAV provides support and ongoing training to ACOs. All ACOs will obtain a Certificate IV in Basic Emergency care, a nationally recognised course. ACOs meet regularly to maintain the clinical requirements of the role which include receiving training in pre-hospital emergency care and the provision of transport services including: Basic Life Support , Fracture Management and Spinal Management for medical emergencies such as stroke, chest pain, diabetic emergencies, pain relief and anaphylaxis.
