Emergency childbirth DVD now available
07 Jul 2008
Ambulance Victoria (AV) has created an emergency childbirth training DVD for rural and remote medical specialists.
Through our involvement in various training programs for rural nurses and medical personnel, AV has received strong feedback indicating that many non-maternity trained healthcare providers are calling for basic training in emergency childbirth, so that they are prepared to deal with such a situation if no obstetric or midwifery specialist were available.
With this in mind, AV’s highly regarded clinical division has produced a user-friendly emergency childbirth training DVD.
Designed for healthcare providers including paramedics, nurses, GPs, and students studying a health-related discipline, or anyone who wants a basic introduction on how to deal with the unplanned emergency presentation of a woman in labour, the 20-minute DVD features topics including:
- Emergency birthing procedure: an uncomplicated birth
- Cutting of the cord and delivery of the placenta
- APGAR score
- Cord prolapse
- Primary post partum haemorrhage
The DVD is presented by midwife and midwifery educator Bree Bulle and incorporates practical demonstrations using AVs life-like manikins. Bree currently works as a consultant midwife at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne and as a clinical midwifery educator at Southern Health Clayton Campus, Victoria’s largest maternity health care provider.
The emergency childbirth DVD is available for $179 (including GST and postage/handling).
